Sherbrooke Laser Marking & Etching: Get Aluminum Items Engraved For Traceability
There are many situations where permanence is a bad thing, like when your toddler decides to draw on the walls with a Sharpie or when your teenager gets an awful tattoo that you know they'll regret in ten years. But when it comes to getting things engraved, permanence is what you should be striving for, and that's exactly what Systana Gravure offers!
The Sherbrooke, QC company fabricates custom signs, decals, and accessories with lettering, numbering, graphics, and other markings lasered into them. The engravings are done using either a fibre laser or a CO2 laser, both of which produce permanent results.
Marking vs. Etching
Generally, Systana Gravure uses two lasering techniques—laser marking and laser etching. With laser marking, the laser vaporizes a thin layer of the surface material leaving behind shallow marks that make up your design. Conversely, with laser etching, the laser fuses one material (usually ceramic powder) to the surface of another material, creating raised marks.
“Laser marking and etching have become increasingly popular, especially among industrial clients,” explained a spokesperson for Systana Gravure. “This is largely due to laser technology’s ability to produce much more consistent and precise results than traditional marking methods, which is especially important in industries where accuracy and traceability are paramount.”
Aluminum vs. Stainless Steel
As far as what materials the engraving can be done on, Systana Gravure recommends either aluminum or stainless steel. Aluminum is better if you're looking for a lighter, softer, less expensive option, but stainless steel is more durable and resistant to scratches, scuffs, rust, and oxidation. If requested, they can also mark other metals, as well as wood, plastic, and glass.
What Can I Get Engraved?
The world is practically your oyster when it comes to what you can get engraved! Clients in the automotive sector, for example, use engraving to mark parts, so in the event of an accident or recall, they can trace parts back to where they originated. Medical device manufacturers mark surgical equipment and other life-saving tools for similar reasons. Engraving is also frequently used in the primary metals industry in order to identify the different types of metals that companies deal with.
Why Systana Gravure?
The team at Systana Gravure has been providing clients in Sherbrooke and the surrounding areas with professional engraving services since 2007. During this time they have engraved thousands of different items, from rulers and control panels to elevator switches and identification plates.
“I ordered my first stainless steel limnimetric ruler from Systana Gravure almost ten years ago and the characters are still visible despite all the wear and tear I’ve put it through,” said a satisfied client. “I recently ordered a few more for some of my staff, and the quality of the marking remains top drawer. I would highly recommend them to anyone needing some laser engraving done.”
